Trade protectionism is not the EU analgesics

The European Commission warned on Wednesday, ready to initiated anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations on imports from China's mobile communications equipment. This is the second time to show the strength of its trade within the EU a week. Fears that trade protectionism is on the rise in the 27-nation alliance.

As the EU's executive arm, the European Commission on Wednesday decided to impose punitive tariffs of up to 47 percent of China's Photovoltaic Panels  The decision value of about 21 billion euros (about 27.6 billion U.S. dollars) of Chinese exports, so far the EU's largest anti-dumping cases. The two cases caused great concern not only because of the massive trade in jeopardy, it and clean energy and other emerging industries rather than sunset industries such as textile and footwear industry as a target, opening up a new trade friction of the two economies positions.

European Commission to take the occasion of the latest attack measures still bogged down in the sovereign debt crisis coincided with the European Union on the occasion, the temptation of trade protectionism is becoming stronger. According to official data, the European Union is experiencing the most severe economic contraction since 1995, GDP fell 0.7% in the first quarter of this year. History has proven that the crisis is most likely to lead to trade protectionism, but certainly not the economic plight of painkillers trade protectionism.

The sovereign debt crisis has been going on for almost four years, and still no end in sight, a wake-up call to the EU is losing its competitive edge in an increasingly globalized world, some of its member states. The establishment of trade barriers during the crisis to protect European companies, to quell the angry an inexpensive way, but this practice solar controller is contrary to the solution to the crisis, which requires painful, and even full reform of the political risk, in order to improve competition in the EU economies force.

A more dynamic Europe can only be built on top of the open environment of free market competition, rather than expel the external opponents. Stick to its commitment to keep the market open, the EU actually help themselves. Clearly, the recent case against Huawei and ZTE, two leading Chinese telecommunications systems and equipment suppliers, their services to customers around the world, and cooperation with many European partners.

The first unilateral investigation against Chinese products, the European Commission, the signal is passed to the outside world is that it has been the support of Europe's growing trade protectionist forces. This radical approach may lead to a tit-for-tat trade war, which does not meet the interests of any party. The European Commission said that the decision will not take effect, the purpose is to set aside time to negotiate with China to find "friendly solution".

Negotiations with a trade threat of punishment, however, can hardly be called friendly. As the world's two largest economies and major trading partners, China and the EU have every reason for the bilateral trade to create a stable environment, and work to develop the huge potential of the depth of cooperation.
